We have our baby!!! Ashley Morgan Fife was born on July 11, 2012 at 11:52pm. She weighs a whopping 5lbs14oz and is 17inches long :) If you only want to see pictures, here they are. If you like the birth story, it's posted below. It does contain 3 DAYS of labor, so it makes for a good read :)
After a flawless pregnancy, at week 34, my blood pressure was a little bit high, nothing alarming, but higher than it was my entire pregnancy. I didn't have any side effects and all my tests came back ok, so I was free to live my normal, pregnant life. I felt wonderful and was truly enjoying my pregnancy. At my 36 week appointment, it was even higher, enough so that my dr put me on modified bed rest and sent me in for an ultrasound to check baby girl. The ultrasound showed that the fluid level was at an eight, normal being 5-20, so all was still ok to keep her cooking. That was Friday the 6th. I spent the weekend on modified bedrest, only leaving the house to go to church on Sunday. I felt wonderful!!
Sunday morning at about 3am I woke up to some fairly heavy bleeding, so I called the dr and she said to head to labor and delivery just to check things out because my blood pressure was something to keep an eye on. I asked permission first and drove myself there :) Still feeling great! They monitored me, and baby, and other than blood pressure, all vitals were perfect, her heartbeat was exactly on target and never faltered. Anyway, Monday mid morning, I went in for another ultrasound to check for a placenta abruption, and we found out that in those two days her fluid went down to a three. Not great - so my doctor let me know that I would be being induced immediately. Also not great - I had the car with carseats, Jordan was at home with the girls and my mom and dad were up in Seattle signing paperwork on their new house. Did I also mention that my sister and her three kids were in town to visit BEFORE I had the baby?? After a bit of scrambling, my mom made it down that evening, Jordan got a ride to the hospital and took the van home, then came back to be with me. All the while I am having contractions every 2 minutes, and hoping for a baby by Tuesday morning :)
Imagine my disappointment (and PAIN!) when I was only at a 1 when she checked me and only 20%effaced, and baby was still at a -3. More pitocin and cervidel for me, and all day on Tuesday of contractions every 2 min - plus you can't have pain medicine until a 4 or 5, they gave me something through the iv, but it loses effectiveness with each use :) PS- I actually still felt great, hungry as I was on a no food diet, and bored because daytime tv sucks, but actually enjoying the hang out time with Jordan.
Tuesday Evening - I must be dilated right!? - NOPE still a ONE. Pit all night :) All the while Miss Ashley (who had not been named yet) was being a trooper and keeping a steady heartbeat so there was no rush to get her out. Plus she wasn't quite 37 weeks so the longer the better...
Wednesday morning - Dilated? Nope :) Pitocin all day. Also, I have high blood pressure, so they won't let me walk around to get her moving down so I took a lot of naps with my contractions every 1-2 minutes :)
Wednesday Evening - My dr came back and said that if nothing had happened by morning, she was going to do a c-section, but really thought we could still do this. I am game, I still feel ok and Baby was 37 weeks as of today (the 11th). My doctor leaves and says if there is an emergency to let the on call know, but she was sure she would see me in the morning for a lunchtime baby. Oh yes, and I can eat something :) I ate a bagel and was going to hop in the shower. And THEN - I started passing MAJOR blood clots and my blood pressure spiked. They put me on oxygen, called the on call dr who said she was on her way for my c-section, that night! I got prepped and ready, and we waited anxiously to meet our baby girl.
In the delivery room, they did the spinal, and we really wanted her out by midnight, as it was Jordan's mom's 50th birthday that day, so they could share a birthday! The dr was asking me if I could feel what she was doing as the test before they started cutting - AND I COULD FEEL EVERYTHING! The anesthesiologist said that almost NEVER happens and that it must be because I am so tall, he would just give me another one and hope that worked - otherwise, with my blood pressure, they would just put me under general to get things going..... Second spinal in, I am thankfully numb and Jordan came in. He was so helpful! I made him hold my hands above my head the whole time, as my instinct was to reach and stop the dr from all the pulling and tugging I felt. Such a weird feeling - numb, but not really, it felt like they were pulling the skin off my bones, it didn't hurt but I did feel it...you know??
SO, at 11:52 pm they pulled out our 5lb14.5oz baby girl and we fell in love! She is such a sweet baby, it took a while to name her, nothing either of us liked seemed to fit her but on the second day in the hospital Ashley just came to us and it felt right. Morgan is Jordan's grandma's maiden name and a wonderful person to name a baby after.
So here we are, three beautiful daughters, and loving it. We are so blessed and just fall in love with them more every day. Ashley nurses well, is growing and just fits in our hearts and family so perfectly. In love just does not do the feeling justice. I am sure there are details I should have added, and a few I could have done without, but I only have this ten minutes to write this down!
